Music Meeting: exciting musical encounters

Music Meeting is an international music festival that unites musical genres from all the corners of the globe: ranging from jazz, soul and funk to klezmer and from gypsy to afro-latin. Ever since it’s founding in 1985 Music Meeting has revolved around improvisation, adventure and experimentation. In twenty-eight years, Music Meeting has become an established festival, which time and again has presented exceptional and undiscovered talent. The core of the festival consists of projects not bounded by a concept as ‘genre’, performed by artists from diverse cultural backgrounds, who previously have never collaborated. Imagine free jazz combined with minimal music plus a hint of Hebrew soul and Bedouin song.
Amateur musicians of all levels of musicianship can participate in a multitude of energetic workshops and master classes. Expert meetings, interviews with musicians, short music demonstrations by musicians and music films can all be attended and are complimented by a versatile market and international cuisine. The Mini Meeting provides performances and workshops tailored to the youngest of the festival audience.
Music Meeting takes place during Whitsun in the lush green Park Brakkenstein, bordering the Radboud University of Nijmegen.
At night time the festival spirit continues in the popular music venue Doornroosje, during which under the name of Club !mm…! a variety of music cultures are blended in with electronic and live dance beats. Here with the younger music- and dance enthusiasts in mind, musicians and DJ’s create an experimental open-minded atmosphere resembling modern music scenes in Rio de Janeiro and New York.
Added in 2009 to the camper’s and music lovers’ delight brunch concerts are held in the peaceful setting of the adjoined botanical garden, where different music styles can be consumed together with a filling brunch.

The organization

Music Meeting is a Non Govenmental Organization (NGO). The boardmembers carry responsability for the acitivties of the NGO, of which the festival is the main activity.  A number of freelancers are associated with Music Meeting. An estimated 150 volunteers work before, during and after the festival to realise a succesfull Music Meeting.
